The power of backlight on the stones

Both marble and granite have an incredible beauty. Thanks to the unique drawings and variation of shades in its composition. The use of the backlight is a big trend in decoration of architectural projects, because it allows to highlight what the natural stone has the best to offer.

The backlight is only possible in translucent materials or in our materials that have the Pietrafina technology.

Pietrafina technology consists in decrease the stone’s density. It goes through an exclusive cutting process and other transformations to become translucent. This effect by itself is already gorgeous and besides making the materials translucent, this technology also permits more lightness and resistance. It’s incredible, isn’t it?

The light applied on the back excels the veins and colors of the materials, which makes the beauty of the stone even more in evidence.

How to choose barbecue grill covering

The barbecue grill is one of the highlights in external or internal areas of a residence. For being an attractive element while composing as the center piece of decoration, the barbecue grill deserves a special attention from architects.

Granite is an excellent option of barbecue grill covering, it is a material with high resistance to the heat from fire and fat. Even though the material has high resistance, we advise to clean the granite as soon as possible when some kind of product or fat falls on it. In addition to that, this natural stone provides sophistication and elegance to the environment.

Should I use light or dark color in barbecue grill covering?

Although the granite is a resistant material for the barbecue grill, it is recommended to use dark shades, because they are more efficient against stains from agents like fats and drinks. However, if you want to use light colors of granite, it is indicated to waterproof the stone and do maintenance periodically.

Cleaning

Another advantage of barbecue grill covering with granite is the simplicity of cleaning due to its smooth and uniform surface. Neutral detergent and wet cloth are enough to clean. It’s worth pointing out that abrasive products as steel wool are not recommended because it makes the stone lose its natural shine throughout time.

Granite colors

It is necessary to choose carefully the color of granite so that there is harmony with the environment. When it comes to barbecue grill covering, the black and brown colors are the most popular. Beyond conveying elegance, these colors match with all colors and forms of other decorations from the environment.

Check below some options of colors for barbecue grill covering with granite:

Absolute black

This is a model with an intensive color and presents lower porosity, which makes it very popular for barbecue grills. Its tonality helps to hide little dirt and prevents absorption of agents that can stain the stone.

Black San Gabriel

As well as Absolute Black, the Black San Gabriel is one of the most popular in the market. It composes well with woody elements and with white and gray colors.

The dark brown color is also a versatile option, because the decoration in external residence areas tends to be in beige tones. Besides that, the brown is not obvious and traditional, which transmits authenticity to the project.

Brown tabaco

The model is characterized by an intensive brown color with small black spots.

Imperial Coffee (PR Group own quarry)

The Imperial Coffee is known by its brightness and mixture of dark colors, which transmits sophistication, warmth and sobriety to the environment.

What is travertine?

Travertine is very common in constructions and finishing for being a noble, elegant, and timeless option. Travertine is a beige and natural calcareous stone composed by calcite, aragonite, and limonite. There are little cavities and veins that remind branches and leaves.

Types of travertine

The most popular types are from Italy, such as Roman, Navona, Classic, Tuscan, among others. In Brazil, the two most commonly used types are Roman and Navona, both imported from Italy and other places in the world.

The main difference between them is the color and intensity of the veins.

Finishing

Although beige is its natural color, travertine can be found in different colors and finishing. These aspects make the difference when you choose the material for your project. Coming up next you will see 4 different finishing available in the market:

Rough or natural: It’s the way the stone comes from the nature. In other words, the marble is just sawn. It is very common in wall coatings for presenting an exceptional beauty.

Roman Travertine - Rough or natural

Plastered: It is made applying a resin in the stone that covers the pores on the surface. This finishing can be combined with the levigate or polished type.

Roman Travertine - Plastered

Levigate: It has an opaque and smooth aspect that keeps the natural color of the stone. It can be applied in different ways in external and internal environments.

Roman Travertine - Levigate

Polished: It has a smooth and “glossy” aspect.

Recommendations for use

Since it is a beautiful and sophisticated material, travertine has a greater value compared to other coatings. It is mostly indicated to internal environments such as fireplaces, sills, table top, countertops, panels, walls, footers, and floors.

It’s worth pointing out the importance of waterproofing the stone to preserve the characteristics of this calcareous stone. Without the correct waterproofing, the high humidity or chemical agents can damage the travertine over time. The cleaning can be done with cloth, neutral detergent, and water.

Understand the difference between Quartz Surface and Quartzite

If you are an architect or interior designer, you have probably already asked yourself about the difference between Quartz Surface and Quartzite. Although marble and granite are the most popular, there are other options in the universe of ornamental stones.

Quartz Surface

Quartz Surface are industrial stones relatively new in the market. The product is composed by 93% of natural quartzite (one of the most resistant mineral of nature), polymers and dyes, resulting in one product with high performance, with indefinite warranty period and may have an eternal life.

For those who seek innovation, modernity, and luxury, with the security of quality and resistance to stains and scratches, mainly for kitchen countertops and gourmet spaces, Quartz Surface is the right option.

Cleaning quartz surface should be done with a sponge and neutral detergent. Products that have ammonia, ink removers and strong chemical products can damage the material.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a metamorphic natural stone essentially composed by quartzite. In general, it is formed sedimentary rocks and has high resistance to chemical and physical weathering.

In construction, its applicability is vast, because it has elegant visual characteristics like marbles, but it has high resistance like granites. For this reason, it can be applied from kitchen countertops to decorative panels. Since it is a hard material and, therefore, with a higher production cost, it has a more expressive commercial value when compared with other stones. It does not require waterproof and it can be used both in internal and external areas.
